This cross-disciplinary centre will combine academic and technical expertise with advanced computing capabilities to enable research at scale - from the processing of large, complex data sets to the training and deployment of cutting-edge AI models.To support this exciting new centre, we are seeking a Research Statistician to play a critical role in data analysis and validation using appropriate methodologies. You will work closely with researchers, fellow team members within Technical Services and our colleagues in Information Technology & Digital to ensure key research projects have support in data analysis. Your expertise will help underpin the University's ambition to become a leader in digital and data-driven research.Appointment DetailsWe are offering this appointment as one of two roles:
  • Technical Specialist (Research Statistics): Grade 7 £35,116 to £39,355
  • Research Technical Professional (Research Statistics): Grade 8 £40,497 to £46,735
You will:
  • Lead the design, development, and optimisation of methodologies for identifying patterns, interpreting data, and formulating solutions to research questions.
  • Work collaboratively with academic researchers, software engineer, Technical Services and IT colleagues to aid statistical analysis of large datasets to facilitate impactful research.
  • Ensure the data ethics and privacy regulations for responsible data handling and research. Be responsible for data cleaning, handling missing values, and transforming data for analysis.
  • Champion best practices in data governance & security,
  • Contribute to the strategic planning, ensuring alignment with the University's digital research ambitions.
  • Be familiar with Linux Operating Systems.
You will bring:
  • Proven experience in designing and statistical data analysis and visualisation.
  • A strong understanding of modern statistical methodologies and experimental design and power analysis.
  • Skilled in required programming languages such as R and Python.
  • A commitment to best practices in data security, governance, and analysis of large data sets.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage effectively with technical colleagues, researchers, and wider stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver impactful solutions.
