As a Pupil Support Assistant (2), you will work under the direction and supervision of a class teacher or senior member of staff to assist by supporting children and young people who have been identified as requiring additional support.You will be required to:support pupils/children individually or in class or in small groups in identified areas of learning and personal development.contribute information to update planning and review process for individual pupils/children.supervise pupil/child self-administration of medication. You will offer a high level of personal care which will enable the pupil/child to function to their full potential e.g. toileting, administrating medication in line with agreed training procedures and encouraging self-help and independence.carry out support programmes designed by visiting specialists e.g. speech and language programmes, physiotherapy and/or occupational therapy programmes.support pupil/child mobility (as defined by moving and handling training) on an emergency/short-term basis and for low level needs e.g. to support toileting or short term injury such as a broken leg.A link to the role profile is included below, where you will find more information about the role, with specific reference to essential and desirable criteria for applicants.Qualification, Registration and Skill Requirements
  • Educated to SCQF level 5, which includes 2 National 5's, 2 Standard Grades, or 2 O Grades or equivalent.
  • You are required to have good levels of interpersonal skills and abilities which will enable you to work as a member of a team to ensure positive outcomes for all children and young people.
  • Experience of supporting young people with additional support needs.
Before confirming to your appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the relevant PVG scheme.As this role requires SSSC registration, you will have three months to apply for registration.If appointed, you must start your application as soon as possible so you're registered within the required six months.If you need to achieve a qualification to maintain your SSSC membership, information will be provided if you are appointed.
