Job Title: Youth Justice Assistant Operations Manager Rate: £26.15 PAYE per hour / £30.21 LTD per hour (Paid weekly via an umbrella company) Directorate: Children and Young People's Services Service Area: Youth Justice Service (YJS) Location: Constantine House, Constantine Road, Ipswich, IP1 2BX Hours: 37 per week Contract: Temporary (up to 12 months) Main Purpose of the Job The Assistant Operations Manager will play a key role in leading change, driving service improvements, and managing staff, projects, and resources to deliver the best possible outcomes for children, young people, and families within Suffolk's Youth Justice Service. Key Responsibilities Communication & Engagement Engage with children, young people, families, colleagues, and communities to ensure their voices shape service planning and delivery. Manage communication and information sharing with stakeholders in line with Council policies. Handle complaints appropriately, seeking early resolution wherever possible. Service Quality & Performance Manage and develop services to achieve strategic priorities and high-quality outcomes. Lead continuous service improvement and performance monitoring. Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, local policies, and safeguarding standards. Reporting & Data Quality Lead on performance management and quality assurance processes. Oversee case recording, audits, and data accuracy to inform service planning. Produce reports for management and strategic decision-makers. Practice Leadership Support safe and effective case transitions between teams. Mentor, supervise, and appraise staff, embedding Signs of Safety and Wellbeing principles. Promote research-informed and innovative practice, particularly in early help and prevention. People, Resources & Project Management Manage staff, budgets, and resources effectively to ensure value for money and high standards of practice. Support staff recruitment, training, and professional development. Oversee workforce performance, celebrating best practice and addressing challenges constructively. Ensure safe and efficient use of office and mobile working facilities. Multi-Agency & Partnership Working Build strong relationships with partners, agencies, and communities. Lead on joint service delivery opportunities and contribute to locality-based service planning. Risk Management & Safeguarding Take responsibility for managing safeguarding concerns and promoting a risk-aware culture. Identify service pressures and manage associated risks. Ensure compliance with statutory duties, data protection, equality, and diversity policies. Autonomy Responsible for managing a defined area of service, including staff and budget accountability. Expected to make operational decisions within scope of responsibility. Escalates issues or risks outside of remit to senior management.
