Job Description: The Asphalt Foreman is responsible for leading and managing our asphalt paving gang, overseeing daily site operations, ensuring that paving activities are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards of quality. This role requires strong leadership skills, technical knowledge of asphalt paving, and the ability to coordinate people, equipment, and materials on site. Key Accountabilities • Lead and supervise the asphalt gang, including Paver Operators, Screwmen, Roller Drivers, and Labourers • Plan and manage daily paving activities to meet project specifications, timelines, and budgets • Coordinate equipment and material deliveries to ensure continuous operations • Monitor work quality and compaction levels, making adjustments as needed • Implement health and safety regulations and conduct on-site safety briefings • Liaise with Site Managers, Engineers, and subcontractors to ensure effective communication and coordination • Maintain daily records of labour, equipment usage, material quantities, and progress • Provide on-the-job training and mentorship to gang members • Report any issues, delays, or incidents promptly • Ensure machinery and tools are used and maintained correctly Qualifications • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Roadbuilding, Construction Operations, or equivalent preferred • Valid CSCS card; CPCS/NPORS plant tickets are advantageous • SMSTS or SSSTS certification preferred (or willingness to obtain) • Full driving licence required (or UK equivalent) • Right to work in UK (sponsorship will be possible) and open to working overseas. Experience • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in asphalt paving, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory or leadership role • Excellent knowledge of asphalt paving processes, compaction techniques, and site safety practices • Proven leadership and team coordination skills • Ability to read/understand English and interpret construction drawings, plans, and specifications • Good problem-solving skills and decision-making under pressure • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written • Competence in completing paperwork and digital reporting tools • Experience working on airfield projects and/or civil engineering or infrastructure projects is a plus. Skills & Knowledge • Outdoor work in various weather conditions • May involve long hours, weekend, or night shifts depending on project schedules • Exposure to noise, dust, and heavy machinery • High attention to detail and ability to work within tight tolerances • Strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental practices • Experience working under time-sensitive conditions, including night shifts or airport closures • Excellent teamwork and communication skills • Flexibility to work varied hours, including nights and weekends, to suit operational windows
