Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW) are seeking a Consultant Obstetrician Clinical Lead to help in the implementation of the Strategic Perinatal Workforce Plan (the Plan), influencing transformative change and improvement to the multidisciplinary workforce who deliver perinatal services across NHS Wales.This position is required to ensure that the team have the appropriate clinical expertise to effectively and successfully implement the actions within the plan in collaboration with colleagues and partners. This will be achieved via sessional commitment of one session per week until 31st March 2026 to successfully deliver HEIWs IMTP 25/26 requirements.The successful individual will work as part of the Nursing and Midwifery Workforce Transformation Team and will liaise closely with the Medical Directorate.This post is being offered as a secondment opportunity only. This post is for a fixed secondment period but may be extended or made permanent at the end of the secondment period depending on available funding and business requirement.The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.Main duties of the jobAct as the medical workforce subject matter expert for the implementation of the plan as requiredAutonomous management and successful delivery of actions as delegated by the Associate Director of Nursing and Midwifery, including maintaining project controls and associated functions, and risk managementDevelop and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholdersThis post is a secondment until 31 March 2026 due to funding.   • Currently practicing as a consultant within the NHS.
  • Knowledge of the current Maternity and Neonatal workforce of NHS Wales
  • Knowledge of techniques for planning, monitoring and controlling projects.
ExperienceEssential
  • Expertise and recent experience in obstetrics
  • Experience of successful team working.
  • Experience of leading workforce development, education or training with a thorough knowledge and understanding of current education and training pathways in Maternity and Neonatal Services
Skills and AttributesEssential
  • An excellent written and verbal communicator
  • Developed interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels.
  • Proven ability in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with stakeholders
