- This role provides the opportunity for hybrid working, allowing you to work either from home, subject to managerial approval, or from our Office at County Hall, Taunton.
- This role involves some travel within the local area for meetings, site visits, and community engagement activities.
- 30 days' annual leave (in addition to bank holidays).
- The contract offered is permanent and full-time (37 hours per week).
- Assisting and supporting the Traffic Engineer and covering during periods of absence.
- Providing technical advice to event organisers, members of the public, elected members of the Council and others on traffic management issues. This will include technical explanations of event traffic management and advice on the delivery of safe, successful movements of vehicles and pedestrians.
- Preparation of reports, which will include drafting written reports, preparation of presentations and provision of technical data and information.
- Working closely with the Emergency Services across Somerset to deliver collated advice and guidance to event organisers on the safe delivery of events
- Producing and advising on appropriate and complex Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders
- Undertaking specified traffic assessment work, which will include:
- On site needs and location assessments.
- Providing expert advice on the design of temporary traffic signs and road markings in accordance with the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions (TSRGD) 2016.
- Undertaking checks on event specific temporary traffic management in accordance with the New Roads and Street works Act.
- HNC in Civil Engineering or similar field, or significant relevant experience.
- An understanding of Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders and highway legislation, such as the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the Traffic Management Act 2004 and the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991.
- Awareness of Event Management national guidance and best practise
- Knowledge of traffic engineering principles and practices.
- Previous experience in a highways/traffic management environment.
- Experience in the planning and delivery of events
- The ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- An understanding of the Safety Advisory Group and the role it plays in the safe facilitation of events.
- Proficient in Microsoft applications.
