Our mission is clear: safeguarding the environment, minimizing operational disruptions, and supporting sustainability goals for our valued clients.Your main focus will be to attend and investigate water pollution incidents; undertake field-based monitoring and collect environmental samples for laboratory analysis across the Southern Water region.35 hours per week; 9am until 5pm, five days per week (Monday to Friday), alongside a requirement to be on a standby rota, 1 week in 6, for weekend/public holiday and evening work. Overtime paid for instructed works during standby periods, all this will be planned in advance for you!More details about the role:
  • Attending and investigating water pollution incidents across the Southern Water region
  • Completing field monitoring works including water quality measurements and sampling
  • Completing data entry after collecting data in the field
  • Technical report writing in response to water pollution incidents, time limited in accordance with client requirements
  • Maintaining all equipment needed for site and maintain cleanliness of vehicle to a high standard and inform line manager if new equipment is needed
  • Providing accurate and timely information to line management
About you:
  • Degree in a Biological or Environmental Sciences discipline
  • Understanding of water chemistry and the indicative parameters
  • A full clean UK driving licence
  • Experience in scientific fieldwork, and an enthusiasm for working outdoors in all weathers
  • Competent user of Microsoft Outlook, Excel & Word
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills with the ability to pay close attention to detail
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team following precise protocols
  • Motivated, friendly and confident interacting with clients
  • Experience of aquatic macro-invertebrate sampling and aquatic macro-invertebrate identification skills to Family level would be beneficial
  • GIS skills desirable
  • Understanding of the role of regulators such as the Environment Agency
  • Laboratory analysis in environmental monitoring, and environmental compliance
