We're an organisation that likes to give back, so you'll also have one charity day allocated to support a cause that matters to you.About you:We are seeking a L3 Senior Systems Engineer to play a key role in an engineering team that is responsible for the operation of critical platforms supporting thousands of customers and millions of citizens. You will be at the heart of the team that designs, builds and operates modern, secure, high availability and high-performance payments processing platforms and other key solutions that maximise the efficiency of operations of our customers.
The platforms that you will be working on support organisations across the UK, from enabling payments for major clean air initiatives such as the congestion charge and ultra-low emissions zones in London, enabling local authorities to support vulnerable citizens, and enabling payments for the BBC license fee. While doing this you will be delivering innovative changes that support Open Banking, payment wallets and alternative payment methods.
These platforms are in private cloud, using the latest technologies to ensure that they deliver excellent service to our customers. Some of them are integrated into telephony solutions to deliver payment processing services.Day-to-day, you will:
- Support the design and running of payment processing and income reconciliation systems, working closely with the wider Product & Engineering team.
- Deploy, configure and monitor servers and applications (Windows, Linux, virtual machines), fixing issues quickly to keep systems stable and secure.
- Help integrate and support telephony-based payment solutions, working with both internal teams and external partners.
- Automate routine tasks with scripts, keep systems compliant with security standards, and share knowledge through clear documentation.
- Experience with payment systems, high-volume transaction processing, or telephony solutions (e.g. SIP).
- Knowledge of Windows and/or Linux server administration, including Active Directory, DNS, or automation tools like Ansible or Puppet.
- Familiarity with monitoring and troubleshooting tools (e.g. Splunk, New Relic, SolarWinds) and scripting (PowerShell, Unix shell).
- Understanding of security best practice (such as PCI-DSS), disaster recovery, and networking basics (TCP/IP, firewalls).
