- work closely with more senior members of the team who will support and mentor you in this role completing environmental actions on a portfolio of individual projects to facilitate project programmes. This will include advising on environmental issues with support from technical specialists (for example, archaeology, noise, odour, contaminated land, flood risk, landscape assessment, and pollution prevention)
- assist with reviewing permitted development/planning permission requirements and environmental constraints for a range of water supply, sewerage and sewage treatment projects
- carry out external consultation and liaison and prepare consent applications, including planning applications and environmental permits
- produce supporting reports where required, as well as preparing construction environmental management plans
- assist with the coordination of specialist environmental survey and assessment work within project deadlines to support consent applications, including managing specialist sub-contractors where necessary
- provide environmental information and guidance to colleagues about environmental consents, issues, timescales and costs at all stages of the project, ensuring we maintain legal compliance.
- a degree in environmental science or a similar related subject, eg, geography
- a minimum of two years of similar project experience in a planning/environmental role
- some experience preparing planning applications and/or environmental permits, including the preparation of supporting environmental information
- an understanding of UK EIA and planning legislation
- excellent communication/negotiation skills with colleagues, technical specialists, external organisations and the public
- a high level of organisational skills and the ability to manage your own projects, workload and deadlines
- good IT skills
- a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle to use and insure for business purposes to attend site visits.
- an understanding of sewage and water treatment processes
- knowledge of environmental good practices during construction, including pollution prevention planning
- GIS skills
- an awareness of ISO14001 Environmental Management Systems
- good presentation/public speaking skills.
