Job Type: Full-time, PermanentA highly reputable and long-established client in the plant and surfacing industry is currently seeking an experienced Plant Mechanic to join their operations team in Northampton. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified engineer looking to work with a wide variety of modern equipment and enjoy a mix of workshop and field-based responsibilities.About the Role:
This position involves servicing, maintaining, and repairing a fleet of heavy and small plant machinery used in the road surfacing sector. The successful candidate will be expected to respond to on-site breakdowns as well as conduct preventative maintenance at the depot.Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and repair faults across mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
- Carry out scheduled servicing and inspections
- Attend on-site breakdowns as part of a 1-in-4 on-call rota (Saturday to Saturday)
- Complete all job documentation and service records accurately
- Adhere to health & safety standards across all working environments
- Maintain plant reliability to minimise operational downtime
- Surfacing equipment
- Pavers
- Planers
- Rollers
- Street Masters
- Small handheld plant such as saws and whacker plates
- NVQ Level 3 in Plant Maintenance or related discipline (Level 2 considered if time-served)
- Proven experience in a similar role (minimum 5 years preferred)
- Full UK driving licence
- CSCS card
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills
- On-call rota: 1 in 4 weeks (Saturday to Saturday)
- Standby fee: £325 per on-call week
- Overtime available regularly
- Time and a half: 17:00 - 00:00
- Double time: 00:00 - 06:00
