
Consultant Histopathologist (Gastrointestinal)

- Together with other Consultant colleagues, be responsible for providing sub specialised histopathology for its clinical users. (Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, Tameside & Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust and local General Practices). This may include review of slides of patients who are referred in to MFT for further investigation or treatment from other hospitals. The appointee will have the opportunity to participate in cancer multidisciplinary team meetings (MDTs) in line with their areas of subspecialisation which may involve travel to other sites.
- Participate in Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching and training. The Trust is committed to teaching Specialty Trainees in Histopathology under the aegis of HENW (Health Education North West). The appointee will also be expected to teach histopathology to other allied health professionals. In line with this, there will be provision to review the SPA allocation in the job plan if an appointee takes up such extra responsibilities leading to increased teaching duties.
- MB ChB or BDS or equivalent
- Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) or General Dental Council (GDC) (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview)
- Applicants who are UK trained must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. Applicants who are non-UK trained will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.
- FRCPath or equivalent
- MD, PhD or other higher degree
- Experience of audit in cellular pathology
- Teaching of junior medical staff
- Teaching of medical students
- Experience of supervision of ST1 level training including workplace-based assessment and MSF
- Trained Clinical Supervisor
- Trained Educational Supervisor
- Publications in recognised Pathological and Clinical Journals
- Specialist interest in areas of Cellular Pathology complementary to other Consultants in the departments
- Research projects relating to the specialist area
- Organisational Skils
- Communication Skills
- Leadership Skils
- Involvement in service development and / or quality improvement processes
