Carmichael UK are seeking an experienced Deputy Engineering Manager to join a Tier 1 main contractor delivering a significant section of the HS2 project.This is an excellent opportunity for an engineering professional to step into a senior leadership role, managing engineering activities across multiple disciplines on one of the UK’s largest infrastructure projects.The RoleAs Deputy Engineering Manager, you will support the Engineering Manager in leading a large, multi-disciplined team, ensuring technical excellence, compliance, and the safe delivery of all engineering works.Key responsibilities include:Overseeing and managing engineering deliverables across structures, earthworks, highways, utilities, and tunnelling packagesSupporting the Engineering Manager in leading a multi-disciplinary engineering teamEnsuring designs, specifications, and temporary works are reviewed and approvedManaging technical assurance processes, ensuring all works meet contractual and statutory requirementsProviding guidance to Section Engineers, Site Engineers, and Graduate EngineersSupporting stakeholder engagement, including designers, clients, and statutory bodiesEnsuring compliance with quality, safety, and environmental standardsDriving innovation and continuous improvement within engineering processesAbout YouWe’re looking for a dynamic, proactive individual with:Significant experience working on major civil engineering or infrastructure projects (HS2 preferred)Strong technical background across structures, highways, earthworks, or utilitiesProven experience managing multi-disciplined engineering teamsThorough understanding of UK construction standards, CDM regulations, and assurance processesDegree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or related fieldValid CSCS card and full UK driving licence
