Part Time-16 HoursWe have an exciting opportunity for a Fibro-scan technician in the department of Gastroenterology at Sunderland and South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust.This post is a recent but established edition to our service, and we are looking for individuals with an interest in working in a busy Gastroenterology service running the fibro-scanning clinics, working alongside and with the support of the Liver specialist Nurse team.A Fibro-scan is a simple non-invasive test, it is a portable machine which is used to assess the degree of scarring in the liver.The post is a permanent band 3 and is 16 hours per week, working over 2 days Wednesday and Thursday in the outpatients department Chester Wing at Sunderland Royal Hospital.Main duties of the jobFormal training and industry delivery certification will be provided for the successful candidate, who will.
  • Be responsible for fibro scanning patients referred by members of the multi-disciplinary team
  • Provide fibro scans adopting standard protocols and in line with Trust policies and operational guidelines.
  • Ensure that equipment is prepared adequately prior to the procedure and to carry out fibro scans in a safe environment, responsible for assisting with the maintenance of the Fibroscan machine including calibration as per manufacturers safety guidelines.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and family members, ensuring the procedure is explained fully, any questions are answered, and verbal consent is obtained.
  • Explanation of result to patients is not expected of this role.

  • Completion and sign off, of competency-based assessments.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks.
  • Ability to communicate health related information in an understandable way to patients and colleagues, adapting communication style to meet the needs of the recipient.
  • Ability to communicate messages and instructions accurately to colleagues, both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic skills of empathy and reassurance.
  • Basic keyboard skills.
  • Ability to use email system, CV5 and access peritoneal dialysis documentation to, document clearly, using plain English.
  • Understanding of health and safety requirements in a patient environment.
QualificationsEssential
  • Maths and English at level 1 or above (GCSE A G or equivalent).
  • Level 2 Health and Social Care NVQ or committed to completing a Level 2 Healthcare Support Worker qualification on commencement to post.

  • Level 3 Health and Social Care NVQ.

  • Minimum of 6 months in a Healthcare setting .

  • Experience of working as a fibro-scan technician.
