Are you a hands-on Mechanical Fitter looking to join a specialist engineering firm where your expertise in heavy machinery and assembly will truly shine? This is a fantastic opportunity to join a small but highly skilled team, working on bespoke cable-handling systems and custom-built mechanical equipment.You’ll play a key part in the build, assembly, and maintenance of complex mechanical systems — from the workshop to customer sites.   • Proven background in mechanical fitting, ideally within heavy industry or bespoke machinery environments
  • Strong knowledge of gearboxes, motors, bearings, couplings, shafts, and related assemblies
  • Able to confidently read mechanical/technical drawings and schematics
  • Good welding skills (MIG & Stick essential; TIG would be a bonus)
  • Basic hydraulic knowledge beneficial but not essential
  • A flexible approach – willingness to travel to client sites and work occasional overtime
  • A full UK driving licence preferred
Within this position, you’ll also be:
  • Assemble, install, and commission cable-handling systems including winders and payoffs
  • Maintain and service a range of bespoke mechanical machinery and systems
  • Read and interpret technical drawings and liaise with design engineers to ensure accurate builds
  • Perform fabrications and light machining based on detailed engineering specs
  • Carry out MIG and Stick welding on steel components
  • Travel to customer sites as required for installations, breakdown response, and planned maintenance
  • Diagnose faults, strip down equipment, and perform precise mechanical repairs and rebuilds
  • Follow all health and safety procedures, ensuring your work meets quality and compliance standards
