Job Title: Principal Civil EngineerLocation: LeedsType: Full-Time | Hybrid/Flexible Working AvailableSalary: £60,000 - £70,000, DOE + Excellent BenefitsOverview:We are working with a highly regarded civil and structural engineering consultancy known for delivering innovative, sustainable, and client-focused solutions across sectors including residential, commercial, education, and infrastructure. Due to continued growth and a strong project pipeline, they are now seeking a Principal Civil Engineer to lead, mentor, and drive excellence within their Civil Engineering team.Role Summary:As Principal Civil Engineer, you will play a pivotal leadership role in the business—managing complex projects, guiding junior engineers, liaising with key stakeholders, and driving technical excellence. This is a fantastic opportunity for a senior-level engineer who is ready to take the next step in their career or for an experienced Principal looking to join a forward-thinking, design-led consultancy.Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage the delivery of civil engineering projects from concept through to detailed design and construction.
  • Provide technical leadership across drainage, highways, flood risk, and earthworks design.
  • Oversee project resourcing, budgeting, programming, and client communication.
  • Mentor and support the development of graduate and mid-level engineers.
  • Contribute to business development efforts through client engagement and proposal writing.
  • Ensure all work complies with relevant regulations, standards, and health & safety requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with the structural, BIM, and environmental teams to deliver integrated solutions.
Requirements:
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (CEng or IEng) with ICE or equivalent.
  • Strong background in drainage, highway design, and flood risk assessment (MicroDrainage, Civil 3D, etc.).
  • Proven project leadership experience, including managing teams and interfacing with clients.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commercially astute with a focus on quality and efficiency.
