Teaching Assistant – Hearing Impairment Specialist

We are delighted to be supporting a well-regarded school in High Wycombe that is known for its inclusive ethos and supportive learning environment. The school is committed to helping every child thrive, regardless of the challenges they face. They are currently seeking a dedicated and skilled Teaching Assistant with experience or qualifications in supporting students with hearing impairments.Key Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with teaching staff to design and deliver engaging activities tailored to individual needs.
  • Implement a holistic support strategy to help students achieve their full potential.
  • Contribute to the creation and execution of Individual Education Plans (IEPs), Risk Assessments, and Therapy Care Programs.
  • Collaborate with teachers, families, and external professionals to ensure comprehensive support.
  • Build positive therapeutic relationships with students and respond to their unique needs.
  • Use a radio aid system to maintain effective communication with the student.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
  • Prior experience working with children who are hearing impaired, or a strong desire to do so.
  • Solid understanding of Special Educational Needs (SEN) and a passion for inclusive education.
  • Availability to commit to regular working days, either full-time or part-time.
  • Training in Makaton.
  • Qualification such as NVQ in Childcare, Education, or Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools.
  • Familiarity with phonics instruction, especially for students with cochlear implants.
  • Proven ability to foster independence and support social-emotional development.
  • Possession of a valid DBS certificate registered on the update service, or willingness to obtain one.
