This hands-on role involves the design and routing of high-voltage cable systems, offering real-world impact and a gateway into high-integrity engineering environments.Your main responsibilities will be:
  • Design and develop high voltage (HV) cable systems, including route selection, layout, and system specification
  • Perform detailed thermal rating calculations using CYMCAP or equivalent software tools
  • Conduct bonding and pulling calculations to ensure mechanical and electrical reliability of cable installations
  • Produce accurate cable route profiles and spatial layouts using QGIS or other GIS-based platforms
  • Create detailed electrical design drawings and schematics in AutoCAD or MicroStation
  • Interpret and apply DNO standards and ensure all designs comply with regulatory and client requirements
  • Prepare high-quality technical reports, method statements, and documentation to support design decisions
  • Ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards throughout the design process

QualificationsExperience, skills and qualifications required:
  • Engineers with 2-10 years of experience in Electrical Engineering, with a focus on high voltage (HV) systems
  • Solid understanding of HV cable design principles and industry practices
  • Experience performing thermal cable rating assessments using CYMCAP or comparable tools like ETAP, PTW, Neplan, IPSA, DigSILENT, or RTDS
  • Capable of conducting a wide range of cable system calculations, including pulling and bonding analysis
  • Skilled in preparing cable routing plans
  • Proficient in developing detailed electrical layout and design drawings using AutoCAD or MicroStation
  • Familiar with the transmission and distribution networks, including system constraints and design standards
  • Previous experience working with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) and understanding of their processes and requirements
  • Curious and self-motivated, with a genuine interest in growing within the energy infrastructure sector
Desirable Skills:
  • Internship or coursework experience in cable routing, site layouts, or electrical infrastructure design is beneficial.
  • Exposure to energy or industrial projects (nuclear, power generation, infrastructure) is a bonus but not essential.
