Job PurposeReporting directly into the Head of Consultancy, this role combines strategic leadership, operational oversight, and direct client engagement to deliver high-quality consultancy services aligned with Shield Safety's purpose to make the world a safer place to eat, work and play.It focuses on building trusted relationships with customers, identifying practical solutions aligned to our products, and effectively communicating these to enhance governance and safety culture. Day-to-day responsibilities include a range of consultancy activities that support these goals whilst leading and developing a high-performing team of Environmental Health Practitioners (EHPs) including Principal, Senior, and Graduate EHP consultants within the Safety Consultancy division.Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic oversight and guidance to ensure consultants consistently identify and communicate key risks and focus areas across food safety, fire safety, health and safety, and licensing.
  • Ensure consultants deliver practical, product-aligned solutions that support Shield Safety's mission and meet client needs.
  • Maintain and deepen team expertise in Shield Safety's product suite, fostering close collaboration with the Product team to influence and support the development and launch of new offerings.
  • Champion a culture of trust and credibility in client relationships, ensuring consultants demonstrate consistency, care, and professionalism.
  • Oversee the delivery of clear, confident, and actionable safety advice to clients, ensuring high standards of communication and impact.
  • Facilitate strong cross-functional collaboration, particularly with Sales, to align on shared goals and drive commercial success.
  • Identify opportunities to expand and enhance consultancy services, supporting innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure the team maintains subject matter expertise in Safe to Trade, including comprehensive knowledge of its Standards and bolt-ons.
  • Line Management of EHP consultants who provide high quality safety consultancy products and services as well as expert advice and assistance on matters related to Food Safety, Fire Safety, Health & Safety, and Licensing, raised through adviceline queries or via telephone.
  • Maintaining strong relationships with a portfolio of key clients, acting as a trusted advisor and ensuring consistent delivery of value-added consultancy services.
  • Collaborate with the Commercial team to align consultancy delivery with strategic client goals.
  • Planning and execution of consultancy projects, ensuring timely delivery and high standards of service.
  • Oversight and responsible for the allocation and completion of the EHP Consultant's workload ensuring on-time service delivery to the right quality.
  • Support the delivery of Safety Consultancy products, and bespoke consultancy interventions, including policy development and hazard management.
  • Ensure effective use of tools such as RiskProof, ClickUp, and HubSpot for tracking performance, project completion, opportunities, and client engagement.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the Safety Consultancy strategy, including service innovation, process improvement, and commercial growth.
  • Onboarding, mentoring, and progression of graduate EHPs, ensuring alignment with the Safety Consultancy competency matrix and completion of the CIEH Registered Practitioner pathway.
  • Performing quality assurance tasks on your team, including report checks, peer review and shadow and witness visits.
  • Communicating business updates, including company strategy, policy changes, key successes etc.
  • Leading the induction and ongoing development of EHP Consultants, including evaluating new starters' competencies to shape their PDPs, delivering CPD training content, and providing instruction on essential software and systems.

  • Evaluating performance and developing people e.g. performance manager poor performers and identify future stars and develop them.
