A welcoming special school in South Birmingham is seeking a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Mentor to join their team, supporting secondary-aged students with a range of special educational needs. This rewarding role is ideal for someone with experience working with young people who present challenging behaviours and require additional support to thrive in their education.As a Behaviour Mentor, you will work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and specialist support staff to help students self-regulate, develop coping strategies, and re-engage with learning. Students may have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism, or Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), and your role will be key in providing consistent guidance and encouragement both inside and outside the classroom.Responsibilities include:
- Providing 1:1 and small group behaviour support for students
- Implementing de-escalation strategies and promoting positive behaviour
- Working with staff to develop personalised behaviour support plans
- Building strong, trusting relationships with students to encourage engagement
- Supporting students in lessons, during breaks, and throughout the school day
- Encouraging social and emotional development alongside academic progress
- Previous experience working with young people with SEMH or challenging behaviours
- Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build rapport with students
- Resilience, patience, and a positive, proactive approach
- Experience in a special school or alternative provision setting (desirable)
