Category: Professional & Support Services.Job DescriptionWe are really pleased to offer this excellent opportunity to join our team in the as Senior Simulation Technician for Simulation and Interactive Learning Centre.Simulation and Interactive Learning (SaIL) at King's College London is an entity within Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative care that operates and maintain dedicated and technology enhanced facilities spread across different locations at King's.Clinical education and learning are pivotal in developing and maintaining competencies in health care, by design, SaIL spaces incorporates all the elements required for technology enhanced, innovative education with a strong but not exclusive emphasis on clinical learning and simulation, serving all health faculties for healthcare simulation at King's.Reporting to Senior Simulation Operation Manager, working as part of a cross functional team, the role will primarily be responsible in providing administrative and financial support for the SaIL operations. When required, you will also be providing cross cover support for fellow senior simulation technicians and assist with preparation of classrooms and clinical learning environment.The role requires cross-site mobility and shift work variably between 8am-8pm, occasionally moving and handling of heavy equipment, and provide weekend support.We strongly encourage applications from underrepresented groups including those from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic groups, the LGBTQI+ community, those who are neurodiverse and those with a disability.King's considers the professional and personal development of our staff a priority and we offer an inspiring range of opportunities for training and career progression. Our Organisational Development team provide in-house and bespoke learning.Key ResponsibilitiesTimetabling & Room Booking
  • Working alongside Technical and Educational Senior Simulation Technicians, lead and manage all timetabling activities and booking enquires for the SaIL centre and, ensuring all resources are aligned to support the delivery of educational sessions.
  • Ensure all bookings are reflected on KCL timetabling software “Syllabus +” and are adhering to university policies, procedure, and internal deadlines.
  • Coordinate as a key contact for external customers, to understand their requirement, book appropriate resources, and liaise with them within the centre. Work with Senior Simulation Operations Manager to provide appropriate costing and invoicing for centre's use.
  • Manage booking of student Independent Learning Rooms and student societies.
  • Monitor the current booking processes and suggest improvement where necessary.
  • Audit and gather appropriate data to develop centre's utilisation report.
Estates, Health & Safety
  • Working with Estates, oversee that the centres infrastructure remains inclusive, maintained and is conducive to learning.
  • Liaise with Estates to raise any concerns and keep track of pending issues till completion.
  • Ensure the centre remains in compliance with KCL and Sim centre health and safety standards.
  • Work with SaIL team to undertake risk assessment and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Report any health and safety issues on KCL EMS software and develop annual report for SaIL management.
  • Work with senior management to develop plan and proposal for Estates improvement.
  • Develop a monthly report on facility condition and present to the SaIL senior management.
Finance
  • Responsible for raising and tracking requestions and purchase orders, using KCL Finance system 'Unit 4'.
  • Raise sales order for commercial bookings and keep track of payment based on agreed terms.
  • Keep track of income and expenditure of SaIL centres, raising any concerns to SaIL senior management.
  • Contribute to development of SaIL annual budget and business goals.
Administration & logistics
  • Work with various stakeholders and vendors to ensure the centre is adequately stocked with office supplies, linen, and clinical consumables.
  • Manage logistical arrangement for mobility of equipment and resources between various SaIL sites.
  • Provide general induction and orientation of SaIL centre to new colleagues, staff, and student(s).
  • Help develop/improve SaIL processes and guidelines to ensure higher standards of operations.
  • Assisting in staff onboarding and offboarding process, hiring of temp staff through talent agencies, mainly King's talent bank for short term contracts.
  • Managing & supervising staff to ensure a welcoming and inclusive environment at SaIL.
  • Ensure external visitors, contractors, and SPs are guided through the centres.
  • Work with SaIL team and KCL Digital team to automate processes, developing workflows, digitising forms, automating reports and dashboard.
  • Ensuring all SaIL relevant documents are stored appropriately on SaIL sharepoint.
Communication & Socials
  • Manage and ensure all social platforms of SaIL are up to date with relevant information.
  • Develop and manage dynamic mailing list for all internal and external communication.
  • Manage and ensure relevant information is displayed at SaIL centre.
  • Implement strategies to improve communication between SaIL centre and different stakeholders. Sending out regular updates, notifications, and general information.
  • Work with NMPC Faculty Comm department to ensure all communication remains inclusive and supports Faculty's and King's vision.
  • Provide tour of facilities to prospective students, visitors and guests. Representing SaIL centre at various university widening events.
  • Gathering feedback and developing reports that help improve operations.
Continuous Development & Teamwork
  • Engage in appropriate professional activities to keep knowledge-base and skills up-to-date and to develop them further.
  • Supervise the facility operation on a regular basis, maintain high standards, and liaise with other departments that are responsible for providing services to the facility.
  • Actively engage with the relevant faculties' contribution to the King's Vision 2029 and Education Strategy
  • Facilitate an inclusive culture and ethos across faculty teams, ensuring that Professional Services staff work in partnership with academic staff in departments/ centres/ institutes and Professional Services colleagues in the Faculty team and functional networks.
  • In absence of Technical and Educational Senior Simulation Technicians, provide cross functional cover.
  • Occasionally assist in moving and handling of heavy equipment.
  • Occasionally assist with setting up classroom and clinical environment
  • To actively engage in Continuing Professional Development and training initiatives, in line with the Technician Commitment.
The post holder is expected to manage their own workload and to be flexible in anticipating and responding to shifting and competing demands on their and the wider team's time. It is expected that the post will work with minimum regular supervision but will refer to their line-managers for advice on issues which fall outside existing regulatory or policy frameworks.Skills, knowledge, and experienceEssential criteria * Minimum level 4 qualification, e.g. higher apprenticeship, HNC or other Level 4 award, plus work experience in simulation-based education in a health field
  • Experience working in simulation centre or in a similar role
  • Evidence of an active commitment to professional development such as RSci, or working towards CSci
  • Competent knowledge of financial practices, methods and procedures, and able to share best practice
  • Full working knowledge of Health & Safety regulations governing area of work
  • Excellent planning & organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Excellent IT skills (including the use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work as part of a cross functional team and individually to meet objectives under strict deadlines
  • Proactive and responsive to internal contacts (e.g. staff, students and colleagues in the wider university community) and contacts outside the university (e.g. suppliers, colleagues in other HE institutions) in order to build relationships
  • Ability to apply learnt techniques/skills to the work context

Desirable criteria * Experience of university timetabling processes and tools including Syllabus Plus
