Senior Data Protection Lawyer (5+ years')A top-tier UK law firm is looking to appoint a Senior Data, Digital & Commercial Solicitor (5+ PQE) to join its high-performing, nationally recognised team in Edinburgh. This is a strategic hire aimed at meeting growing client demand across core sectors, including retail, tech, sport, healthcare and financial services.This opportunity is ideal for a commercially focused lawyer ready to step into a Managing Associate or Legal Director role.What You’ll Be DoingAs a senior member of the team, you will:
  • Lead complex, multi-jurisdictional advisory and contract work
  • Advise on UK GDPR/EU GDPR, international data transfers, PECR, AI/data ethics, cyber regulation and incident response
  • Prepare, negotiate and review a broad range of commercial and tech-related contracts
  • Drive delivery for strategic client projects and compliance programmes
  • Work cross-functionally with disputes, employment and legal tech teams
  • Supervise and mentor junior lawyers and trainees
  • Support business development, thought leadership and client engagement
The TeamYou’ll join the Edinburgh-based Commercial team, working with an enviable client base across:
  • Data protection, privacy and freedom of information
  • IT and business process outsourcing
  • SaaS, cloud and digital transformation projects
  • Intellectual property protection and licensing
  • General commercial contracts
As part of the wider UK Commercial and Data practice, you’ll work collaboratively across offices on national and cross-border matters.What the Firm Offers

About YouEssential Experience:
  • 5+ years' PQE in data, privacy, or commercial law
  • Proven expertise in UK GDPR, EU GDPR and PECR
  • Strong background in data-related contractual work
  • Experience managing client relationships and delivering commercial, risk-based advice
  • A collaborative, consultative style
  • Experience supervising junior team members
Desirable Experience:
  • AI and digital ethics, marketing compliance, or algorithmic governance
  • Use of legal tech platforms or delivery tools
  • Regulatory engagement or defence
  • Cross-border advisory experience
