Contract Type: Daily Supply, Long-TermDo you have the patience, resilience, and passion to support students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?GSL Education are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA) to support students in a secondary school setting in Gateshead from 8:45 AM to 2:45 PM. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real impact in the lives of young people who need understanding, structure, and consistent support to thrive both academically and emotionally.Role Responsibilities of the SEMH TA:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs.
- Help manage challenging behaviour in a calm, constructive manner.
- Assist with lesson engagement, adapting materials where necessary.
- Promote emotional regulation and positive social interaction
- Build strong, trusting relationships with students and staff.
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCO, and pastoral teams.
- Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and structured learning environment.
- Previous experience supporting young people with SEMH or in an SEN/alternative provision setting.
- A calm, empathetic, and resilient approach.
- Ability to build rapport and maintain professional boundaries.
- Good communication and behaviour management skills.
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
- Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
