- Design, implement, and optimise PostgreSQL database schemas and stored procedures to support versioned data control features.
- Enhance PostgreSQL deployments with a focus on scalability, fault tolerance, and high availability.
- Build and maintain automated deployment pipelines for database changes using tools such as Flyway, Liquibase, or custom scripts.
- Profile and tune PostgreSQL performance at both the query and system level (e.g. indexes, vacuum strategies, connection pooling).
- Collaborate with software developers to integrate PostgreSQL improvements into application features using Agile methodologies.
- Implement and monitor replication, partitioning, backup, and recovery strategies for production-grade environments.
- Contribute to internal standards, documentation, and best practices for PostgreSQL usage across teams.
- Participate in design discussions and provide expert input into architecture decisions related to data storage, indexing, and versioning strategies.
- Proven hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, including advanced SQL, query optimisation, and internal tuning.
- Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL internals: indexing strategies, planner behaviour, partitioning, vacuum/analyze, WAL, etc.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, Terraform).
- Experience designing scalable data architectures in high-volume OLTP environments.
- Proficient in scripting/programming languages such as Python, Bash, or SQL.
- Experience in Agile development teams, preferably using Scrum or Kanban.
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related STEM discipline.
- Experience implementing versioned data storage models or temporal tables.
- Familiarity with PostGIS, logical replication, or custom extensions.
- Exposure to containerised Postgres environments (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Knowledge of monitoring and observability tools such as pg_stat_statements, Prometheus, Grafana.
- Understanding of data governance, auditability, and change tracking in regulated environments.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills — able to translate database issues to non-specialists.
- A proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and automation.
- Able to take ownership of complex technical problems and see them through to resolution.
