Contract Type: Daily Supply, Long-TermAre you a recent graduate eager to gain hands-on experience in education while supporting young adults on their journey to independence?A welcoming and inclusive Post-16 provision in North Shields is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Graduate Teaching Assistant to join their team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with learners aged 16–19 who have a range of additional needs, including SEN, SEMH, or learning difficulties. Ideal for those considering a career in teaching, educational psychology, youth work, or social care.Key Responsibilities:
  • Support students in lessons, helping them access learning and remain engaged.
  • Provide 1:1 or small group interventions, focusing on academic, social, or life skills development.
  • Assist teaching staff in planning, preparation, and classroom management.
  • Help promote independence and confidence among learners.
  • Support students with emotional regulation, behaviour management, and personal goals.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, students, and occasionally families/carers.
  • Maintain accurate records of progress and behaviour as required.
Job Requirements:
  • A degree in any discipline – psychology, education, health & social care or related fields are especially welcome.
  • Passion for working with young people, particularly those with additional needs.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Resilience, patience, and a proactive approach to learning support.
  • Willingness to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • A proactive and compassionate approach to supporting learning.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
