Contract: Temporary (minimum 1 month, with potential extension)About the Role:We are recruiting an experienced Biomedical Scientist (Band 6) to join the Laboratories and Quality Department of the Northern Ireland Blood Transfusion Service (NIBTS).
In this role, you will be a key part of the laboratory team, supporting the delivery of high-quality testing services that directly contribute to patient care across Northern Ireland.This is an excellent opportunity to work in a specialised blood transfusion environment, contributing to the validation and implementation of new laboratory systems and supporting essential quality management processes.Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with validation and implementation of new laboratory systems and processes, including the Blood Establishment Computer System (BECS).
- Undertake incident management, investigation, and reporting to meet Quality Management System (QMS) requirements.
- Perform routine laboratory investigations, interpret and validate results, and communicate abnormal findings promptly to clinicians.
- Carry out quality control procedures to maintain the analytical integrity of results, resolving first-line issues where necessary.
- Conduct preliminary fault finding on laboratory equipment and participate in method and instrument evaluations.
- Rotate across different laboratory sections, managing your own workload to meet turnaround times.
- Contribute to laboratory audits, stock control, and quality system updates (Q-Pulse).
- Support the training and supervision of Trainee Biomedical Scientists and laboratory support staff.
- Maintain compliance with UKAS ISO 15189 and MHRA standards, GDPR, and infection prevention protocols.
- HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in:
- Transfusion-related laboratory work
- Quality Management Systems (QMS)
- Validation and implementation of new systems/processes
- Incident management
- Ability to work flexibly to meet the demands of the service, including potential participation in a 24/7 rota.
