Hybrid working arrangements can evolve subject to business requirements.Transport for London (TfL) Engineering are looking for engineers to join the Power Team to help shape the future of the Power Network across TfL. Join us in one of our engineering teams and, as well as maintaining legacy assets, you'll deliver new systems and solutions. There's more to it than tubes, roads, buildings and bridges. This is about connecting communities and creating opportunities, so we're ready for the 21st century and beyond. On the Underground, DLR, Trams, TfL Rail and Elizabeth Line, the Power Team are involved in projects to maintain, renew, upgrade and extend the Power Systems.This role involves being a trusted source of engineering advice to a range of internal and external stakeholders, and work will include:
  • Assists in the development and implementation of discrete engineering solutions
  • Provides support to TfL Operational Units to improve the reliability, availability and performance of the Transport Network
  • Undertakes technical analysis, diagnosis and monitoring to support design, test, build, commissioning or ongoing performance, safety and reliability improvement of the transport system
  • Analysis of a variety of data sources to determine expected forecasts for energy and peak power demand.
  • Analysis of load application information to approve new connections to the Power System.
  • Analysis of the network using long term scenario based planning to identify strategic investment options.
  • Undertakes risk-based monitoring and surveillance of site works as required, resolving and or escalating risks and issues as appropriate
  • Maintains working knowledge of applicable standards, design codes and legislation
  • Evaluates, selects and applies appropriate solutions to well discrete, well defined engineering problems that improve efficiency or effectiveness, while improving safety and reducing operating costs.
  • Supports continuous improvement using best practice, innovation, whole life cost optimisation and effective root cause analysis.
  • Support on-site measurement, analysis of large datasets and presentation of results in a consumable format.
Key Skills, Knowledge & ExperienceEssential:
  • BEng/MEng Degree in Electrical Engineering (or similar), or HNC/HND with extensive work experience
  • Knowledge of Operations and Maintenance requirements for power systems
  • Knowledge and application of national and international power system standards
  • Experience of operating, maintaining, designing, and/or implementing power projects in a safety focused industry
Desirable:
  • Railway traction power systems experience
  • Power System Design experience throughout the project lifecycle
  • Significant experience of delivery and implementation of power system modelling in a railway environment
  • Knowledge and assessment of distributed power generation connections
  • Experience delivering innovative solutions
