Contract Type: PermanentAbout the Role:
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Social Worker to join the Looked After Children team in Apsley. This critical role involves working closely with children and young people in care, as well as their families and carers, to ensure their safety, stability, and wellbeing.As a Social Worker in the LAC Team, you will carry out comprehensive assessments, develop care plans, and provide ongoing support to help children and young people achieve positive outcomes and fulfil their potential.Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage a diverse caseload of looked after children, ensuring their needs are assessed, understood, and met.
  • Develop, implement, and review care plans in collaboration with children, families, and multi-agency partners.
  • Build strong relationships with children and young people, advocating for their best interests and promoting their voice in decision-making.
  • Support the stability and development of children’s placements by working closely with foster carers, residential care providers, and other professionals.
  • Prepare and present reports for court proceedings, reviews, and other statutory meetings.
  • Work in line with statutory frameworks, including the Children Act 1989 and associated guidance, to ensure all actions promote the safety and wellbeing of children.
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress and outcomes for children, identifying and addressing any issues as they arise.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in line with legislative and organisational requirements.
  • Participate in team meetings, supervision, and training to enhance your professional practice.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
  • Degree in Social Work (or equivalent) from a UK university.
  • Registration with Social Work England.
  • Post-qualification experience working within children’s services, ideally in a safeguarding, assessment, or referral role.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding legislation and statutory guidance, including the Children Act, Working Together to Safeguard Children, and local authority safeguarding procedures.
  • Experience working in a multi-agency setting, with the ability to gather and analyse information from different sources to inform decision-making.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with children, families, and professionals.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage competing priorities, and make sound decisions in a high-stakes environment.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to assess risk and make informed decisions about child protection.
  • A commitment to continuous professional development and reflective practice.
