This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development and improvement of transport infrastructureRole OverviewWe are seeking a motivated and capable Assistant Engineer with 2-4 years of post-graduate experience to join our team. The ideal candidate will be confident delivering small-scale schemes with minimal supervision and have a practical understanding of scheme design and delivery. This is a hands-on role requiring CAD proficiency and experience managing minor works from inception through to completion.Key ResponsibilitiesDeliver small engineering schemes independently or with minimal oversight.Prepare and develop design drawings, schedules, and supporting documentation using AutoCAD.Lead on the design and delivery of:Marking and lining schemesTraffic signing schemesOther minor highway improvement schemes.Undertake site visits, surveys, and assessments as required.Liaise with contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders throughout the scheme lifecycle.Assist in the preparation of cost estimates, work programmes, and progress reports.Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, safety regulations, and local authority guidelines.Support public consultation activities and respond to customer/stakeholder queries where necessary.Contribute to continuous improvement of delivery processes and standards.Person SpecificationEssential:Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.2-4 years of relevant post-graduate experience in engineering project delivery.Proven ability to manage and deliver small schemes independently.Proficient in AutoCAD.Good knowledge of traffic signs, road markings, and highway design principles.Excellent organisational and communication skills.Ability to work collaboratively within a team and with external partners.Desirable:Working knowledge of TSRGD and relevant design standards (e.g., DMRB, Manual for Streets).Experience with traffic regulation orders, safety audits, or construction supervision.Familiarity with GIS or other design/visualisation tools.
