Fixed Term Locum Consultant Psychiatrist in Old Age Psychiatry (6 months)Livewell Southwest is seeking a dedicated and experienced Locum Consultant Psychiatrist to join our Older Peoples Mental Health service, based at Mount Gould Hospital in Plymouth for six months.This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a well-established, community-oriented service that delivers high-quality care to older adults across the Plymouth area and expand your knowledge of working within a community OPMHS setting.Interviews are scheduled to take place on 11 September 2025Main duties of the jobYou will provide Consultant input to the South and West sector of Plymouth, covering a population of approximately 20,000 people aged 65 and over. The role includes:
  • Leading outpatient clinics for both dementia and functional mental health conditions
  • Conducting home visits and supporting community-based assessments
  • Participating in the one-stop dementia clinic model, including cognitive assessments and follow-up reviews
  • Providing Responsible Clinician cover for the two OPMH inpatient wards (Cotehele and Edgcumbe) as part of cross-cover arrangements
You will work alongside:
  • Two Community Consultants
  • 1.6 SAS doctors
  • A Core Trainee (when placed in OPMHS)
  • A robust MDT including Band 7 Team Leaders, Psychologists, CPNs, OTs, and CSWs
What Were Looking For
  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practise
  • Inclusion on the Specialist Register in Old Age Psychiatry is desirable
  • A commitment to collaborative, person-centred care for older adults

  • Experience in community psychiatry, experience in working in a Community Mental Health team and CPA.
  • Evidence of special interest.
