Sommelier for Orient Express Sailing YachtsDepartment: HotelEmployment Type: ContractLocation: ShipboardDescriptionV.Ships Leisure is looking for Sommelier on behalf of Orient Express Sailing Yachts.
Ensures all restaurants consistently deliver technically proficient, efficient and personalized luxury beverage experiences with the goal of creating an exceptional beverage experience for guests. Maintains an intriguing and relevant wine program from product selection and stocking to service delivery, education and training. Partners with other roles to develop and maintain wine-related enrichment opportunities for guests.Key Responsibilities
  • Provides luxury beverage service to guests in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Enforces adherence to the drinking age policy.
  • Ensure the proper management of the wine cellars, including Public Health matters.
  • Be pro-active in beverage offering to enhance the guest experience.
  • Conducts daily training for restaurant and bar waiters.
  • Working alongside and supporting the Head Sommelier in tasks related to the Beverage department.
  • Anticipating the needs of guests by ensuring all supplies are readily available before and during service, maintaining a clean, safe and accident-free environment, and immediately responding to the needs of all guests.
  • Assisting with the setup, cleaning, and breaking down of restaurants and maintaining equipment, supplies, goods and all work areas in accordance with Brand and Public Health Standards, reporting any issues to management.
  • Inventory processes including requisitions, receiving, moving and stocking products according to FIFO.
  • Advance planning, coordination and oversight of execution of special events in partnership with other departments.
  • Ensuring all wine lists are always up-to-date and all listed products are available and readily accessible for service.
  • Active participation in beverage seminar for guests.
  • Active participation in onboard training programs.
Education/Experience/Qualifications:
  • Languages: Fluent English plus one additional international language required (French, German, Spanish, Mandarin).
  • Education: High school degree or related. Formal Sommelier training required.
  • Previous professional experience: 2 - 3 years as Sommelier in a luxury environment.
  • Shipboard experience: Not required but preferred.
  • Valid STCW certificates.
  • Valid Pre-Employment Medical.
  • C1D visa mandatory for all positions.
