About The RoleAre you an experienced data engineer or architect, with an established track record of designing and implementing data integration solutions and/or data management strategies? Do you have experience creating and maintaining data models to create data architecture aligning with business requirements, particularly in a fast-paced and growing organisation? Are you passionate about the world around us and want to be part of an organisation using data to make a real-world impact in the “green sector”, from climate change to renewable energy to species extinction?APEM Group are looking for a Lead Data Architect & Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, you will build and lead a high-performing data solutions team, providing line management, mentoring and professional development opportunities to meet data architecture goals. This will include building and leading coordinated community practices within the direct data team, and across the APEM Group, bringing innovations across a range of client service areas and our business services.You will apply hands-on data engineering skills and data governance principals across the Group to ensure data is readily available, secure, and accessible to stakeholders when they need it, whilst also ensuring daily data team processing activities run smoothly by applying automations, scripting, ML and AI where relevant. In addition, you will also implement best practice data governance and mapping processes, including privacy-by-design and security-by-design whilst both standardising and optimising ways of working across the team.Working alongside other senior leaders in the Group, you will clearly define and manage data processing lifecycles and architecture to optimise solutions, collaborating with technical teams across the Group to ensure scalability, reliability, and performance of data solutions to enable our consultants to meet the demands of some of the most complex and technically challenging environmental projects in the UK and abroad.About youYou will have:
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing data solutions, with a focus on data architecture, engineering, and analytics.
  • Proficiency in creating and maintaining conceptual, logical, and physical data models to create data architecture that aligns with business requirements.
  • Experience establishing and running the data platform foundations based on modern cloud architecture that are used for data products and services.
  • Experience cataloguing data services across the organization including data catalogue and documentation of schemas and application in data products.
  • The ability to demonstrate the commercial benefits of data and value in existing and new products.
  • Involvement in creating ML/AI solutions preferred.
  • Expertise in database design, optimization including automation and scripting for administration across various systems data base management systems, to ensure efficient and secure storage and retrieval of data.
