R&D Tax Manager - BirminghamIf you're looking to join a rapidly growing Research and Development (R&D) tax team, bringing the benefits of not only a variety of work, clients and project teams but also with strong support structures in place to help you achieve your career goals, this is the team for you!The opportunityAn exciting opportunity to work in EY's Global Grants Credits & Incentives team based in our Birmingham office, alongside other tax and accounting and STEM colleagues.As a Manager in the team you will be working with a variety of very high-profile clients from owner managed businesses to multinational groups, who are at the front line in developing cutting edge technology which is helping the UK to stay as a market leader by encouraging investment into research and development.You will be required to work closely with clients' finance, tax and engineering departments. You will work with clients from all different sectors and of all different sizes. Working within the EY team you will be leading the preparation of R&D claims and making sure of compliance against tax legislation. Within the Innovation team you will be exposed to cash grants and patent box applications. As well as working directly on existing projects, you will also be offered the chance to support business development opportunities.There is a clear path for progression for the right candidate and this is a unique opportunity to progress your career in one of EY's leading Incentives and R&D tax teams.Your key responsibilities:
  • Effectively leading project teams, exhibiting strong communication skills and be able to work collaboratively with other team members of different skill sets to deliver client facing engagements
  • To lead on the efficient and successful delivery of R&D tax services to the client inclusive of all tax technical elements
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients and provide high levels of client service, taking a leading role in interaction with clients' senior stakeholders
  • Build relationships both within the firm and externally with clients, identifying opportunities, managing client team stakeholders, and liaising with other client facing teams
  • Contribute to winning new work by proactively managing our existing clients base and contribute to winning new clients by contributing to business development activities.
  • Assist with the management and successful delivery of tax projects, ensuring technical excellence and practical/business driven approach taken
  • Responsible for day-to-day client liaison
Skill and attributes for success:
  • Experienced R&D tax practitioner
  • Team player; ability to integrate with new teams quickly
  • Outgoing with good relationship skills and the ability to deliver quality output
  • Strong technical skills and keen to develop further
  • Ability to build strong client relationships
  • Ability to identify areas of risk, carry out an effective review and know when to refer upwards
  • Ability to solve problems creatively and pragmatically
To qualify for the role you must have:
  • Fully qualified ACA/CA/ACCA/ATT/CTA; or Tax Inspectors with full Technical Training Course
  • Experience leading on, and project managing, the preparation of claims
  • Strong Excel capability including use of VLOOKUP, IF functions and pivot tables, including manipulating large and complex datasets
  • Experience in leading teams and coordinating delivery of services both in the office and remotely
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
Ideally, you'll also have:
  • Project management skills, plan and prioritise work, meet deadlines, monitor own budget
  • Experience in Alteryx
