Closing date: 26/09/2025Salary range: £37,694 - £46,049FTE: 0.6 (21 hours/week)Term: Fixed (31/03/2027)The Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy & Biomedical Sciences (SIPBS) seeks to appoint a researcher to “Research Associate in Data Science” who will add to our current portfolio in research. The position is part time and on a fixed term contract until 31st March 2027. The postholder will join the Pharmacoepidemiology and Healthcare Research Group to support our expanding research programme and will work on various programmes of work as required, including-but not restricted to-The Cancer Medicines Outcomes Programme-Public Health Scotland collaboration (CMOP-PHS). Established in 2016, CMOP-PHS focuses on generating real world evidence on cancer medicines. The vision is to create a national cancer intelligence resource capability to provide findings to inform policy, service delivery, and patient-clinician decision making. CMOP-PHS's main work is: linking routine electronic patient healthcare data to report on the use and impact of cancer medicines in Scotland; and future data development. Other projects will be in areas of applied pharmacoepidemiology using national data in Public Health Scotland. The role will involve curation, access, management and analysis of large secondary healthcare datasets, as well as leading the design and execution of various pharmacoepidemiologic studies.As a Research Associate, under the general guidance of a research leader, you will develop research objectives and proposals, play a lead role in relation to a specific project/s or part of a broader project, conduct individual and/or collaborative research, contribute to the development of new research methods, identify sources of funding, and contribute to the securing of funds for research, including drafting grant proposals and planning for future proposals. You will write up research work for publication, individually or in collaboration with colleagues, and disseminate the results via peer reviewed journal publications and presentation at conferences. You will join external networks to share information and ideas, inform the development of research objectives, and identify potential sources of funding. You may collaborate with colleagues to ensure that research advances inform departmental teaching efforts, and you will collaborate with colleagues on the development of knowledge exchange activities by, for example, participating in initiatives which establish research links which may influence public policy and the professions. You will co-supervise student projects, provide advice to students, and contribute to teaching as required by, for example, running tutorials and supervising practical work. You will contribute in a developing capacity to Department/School, Faculty, and/or University administrative and management functions and committees; and engage in continuous professional development.To be considered for the role, you will have a PhD in an appropriate discipline or have significant relevant experience plus a relevant degree, or preferably independent postdoctoral experience. You will have sufficient breadth or depth of knowledge in pharmacoepidemiology, statistics, and data analytics, specifically in the use of the R language for statistical analysis. You will have a developing ability to prepare research proposals, conduct individual research work, and disseminate results and prepare research proposals. You will have an ability to plan and organise your own workload effectively and an ability to work within a team environment. You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to listen, engage and persuade, and to present complex information in an accessible way to a range of audiences.
