Reports To: Engineering Manager / Technical LeadThe role is inside IR35 and hourly rate is depending on experience.Role Overview:We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Civil/Structural Engineer to lead and deliver structural inspections and assessments across a variety of marine and building infrastructure projects within a regulated environment. This role is pivotal to ensuring the integrity, safety, and longevity of critical defence-related assets.The successful candidate will be responsible for technical delivery, client engagement, and mentoring junior engineers. This is a hybrid role with occasional travel to project sites such as Warrington, Rosyth, and others based on project needs.Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and carry out structural inspections of marine infrastructure including wharfs, jetties, basins, piling, and communication support systems.
- Inspect marine and dock assets made of masonry, timber, concrete, and steel.
- Identify and diagnose structural defects; propose and specify appropriate remediation strategies.
- Prepare detailed defect repair specifications for steel, concrete, and timber structures.
- Produce high-quality technical reports and ensure deliverables are accurate, complete, and compliant with industry and client standards.
- Ensure quality assurance and timely delivery of team inspection outputs.
- Coordinate, plan, and lead teams of engineers and technicians during inspection activities.
- Act as the primary technical interface with clients and stakeholders, ensuring project alignment and client satisfaction.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
- Chartered Engineer status (or actively working toward) with a recognized professional body (e.g. ICE, IStructE).
- Extensive experience in structural inspection and assessment within marine or building infrastructure environments.
- Strong knowledge of structural material behaviour (concrete, timber, masonry, and steel).
- Ability to produce clear, concise, and technically robust reports and specifications.
- Proven leadership in managing teams and delivering complex inspection projects.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Willingness to attend site-based inspections as required.
- Background in defence, marine, or other highly regulated sectors.
- Familiarity with relevant inspection standards and asset management frameworks.
- Leadership or mentorship experience in engineering environments.
- Hybrid working model (approx. 2 days onsite, flexible based on project needs).
- Must be a British citizen (dual nationals may be considered).
- Travel to other UK project sites may be required depending on project demands.
- Project work expected to span a minimum of one year.
