- Assist residents with new and ongoing welfare benefits claims (e.g., Universal Credit, ESA, PIP).
- Liaise directly with benefit departments (e.g. DWP, Housing benefit) on behalf of residents.
- Support residents in attending and navigating Job Centre appointments, forging strong partnerships to ensure clear and concise communication.
- Help residents manage arrears and negotiate realistic repayment plans.
- Collaborate with support teams members and external agencies to coordinate benefit support.
- Provide guidance on budgeting and money management, educating residents on their rights and responsibilities about their welfare benefits.
- Encourage and develop independence and self-advocacy where possible.
- Understanding of Safeguarding and when concerns should be reported to prevent financial abuse or there is a risk of harm.
- Provide factual, accurate records and always maintain confidentiality.
- Promote a culture of respect and acceptance of diversity in all its forms.
- GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths.
- Previous experience of a supported housing setting would be desirable.
- Knowledge of UK welfare benefits system and safeguarding procedures.
- Basic knowledge of debt and financial inclusion support.
- Be self-motivated to prioritise and manage time effectively
- Strong organiser and confident computer skills (Word essential). PowerPoint and Excel is desirable.
- Excellent communication and advocacy skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Empathy and tenacity with the ability to set boundaries firmly and fairly.
- This role requires an Enhanced DBS (criminal records check).
