Job DescriptionA Building Services Project Engineer plays a key role in the design, installation, and maintenance of essential systems within buildings, ensuring they function efficiently, sustainably, and safely. These systems can include:
  • Electrical (lighting, power, fire alarms)
  • Mechanical (heating, ventilation, air conditioning — HVAC)
  • Public health (water supply, drainage, sanitation)
  • Sustainable systems (solar panels, rainwater harvesting, energy efficiency tech)
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design & planning: Create and review MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) designs, often using tools like AutoCAD or Revit.
  • Coordination: Work with architects, structural engineers, contractors, and clients to ensure smooth integration of services.
  • Site supervision: Monitor installation and commissioning of systems on-site.
  • Compliance: Ensure designs and installations comply with building codes, health & safety regulations, and sustainability standards (like LEED or BREEAM).
  • Troubleshooting: Solve on-site issues and optimize system performance.
Skills & Tools:
  • Technical proficiency: HVAC systems, electrical load calculations, plumbing layouts.
  • Software: AutoCAD, Revit MEP, BIM, Navisworks, MS Project, or Primavera.
  • Project management: Budgeting, scheduling, risk management.
  • Communication: Coordinating with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
  • Problem-solving: On-site and design-phase issues.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Services Engineering.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., CEng, LEED AP, PMP) are advantageous.
  • Site and design experience in MEP is typically expected.
