Through innovation in editorial workflows and publishing technology, we help global research communities discover, evaluate, and disseminate knowledge that advances science and improves lives.About the Role:Elsevier is looking for a bright and enthusiastic individual to join the Applied Biosciences team as Associate Publisher and manage a portfolio of journals. This position sits within the Life Sciences team, which is part of our larger Science, Technology & Medical Journals (STMJ) Publishing Organization. The preferred location is the Oxford office, but the offices in Amsterdam and China might be considered.In this position, you will manage, develop, and take complete publishing responsibility for a list of 10-14 journals in applied biosciences, and will work on other projects and initiatives to develop and grow this portfolio of journals. You will team up with experienced publishers who manage related titles.You have entrepreneurial skills and a keen interest in new online developments and changes in the publishing industry, like e.g., Open Access and Peer Review innovation. In addition, you have a strong affinity for building and managing relationships and are competent at working independently whilst also contributing to team initiatives, as necessary.Responsibilities:Develop and implement the strategy for the portfolio combining market knowledge and data analysis to ensure your portfolio remains fully competitive; ensure alignment with the department’s and wider organization’s strategies.Work with Editors-in-Chief and Editorial Boards on strategic journal development.Work with editors, authors, editorial boards and the academic community at large to ensure you meet portfolio related objectives with regards to content growth, articles market share, citation share, relative impact factor, editorial speeds and author, reviewer and editor satisfaction.Negotiate and manage contractual relationships with journal editors.Continuous quality control and monitoring of all aspects of day-to-day editorial, production and publishing operations and actively address improvements where required.Data gathering, interpretation, and presentation.Establish, manage and maintain excellent contacts and networks with editors, authors and society representatives, with a view to understanding their needs and ongoing market developments.Establish, manage and maintain excellent contacts with key stakeholders within the company, including editorial, production, publishing, marketing and technology teams, coordinating activities as they relate to the portfolio’s needs and development.Requirements:Flexibility with working in a complex, matrix international environment.A creative/entrepreneurial/innovative attitude is essentialWillingness to travel internationallyResilient and open to changes in a very dynamic environmentFluent English speaker with excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)Strong networking and collaboration skills.Commercial awareness, negotiation skills and Financial awareness and business acumen.Experience in data gathering, interpretation and presentation.Work in a way that works for you:We promote a healthy work/life balance across the organisation.
