Unqualified Secondary Behaviour Support Assistant – Full-Time | CF48 (Merthyr)Daily Pay: £89.38 (£13.75 per hour)Are you calm under pressure, resilient, and passionate about making a positive impact on young people?A secondary school in Merthyr is seeking a Behaviour Support Assistant (also known as a Behaviour Mentor or Behaviour Officer) to work closely with students who need additional support with emotional regulation, behaviour, and engagement in school life.No qualifications are needed for this role. Your Role:As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you’ll work closely with pastoral and teaching staff to provide a consistent and supportive presence for students who struggle with behaviour, emotional needs, or attendance. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Supporting pupils 1:1 or in small groups with behaviour, motivation, and emotional regulation
  • De-escalating challenging situations calmly and professionally
  • Promoting positive behaviour through tailored interventions and mentoring
  • Recording behaviour incidents and helping implement behaviour support plans
  • Encouraging students to re-engage with learning and school routines
Who We're Looking For:We’d love to hear from candidates who:
  • Have strong communication and de-escalation skills
  • Are confident, calm, and approachable under pressure
  • Understand the challenges faced by young people in education
  • Have experience in youth work, residential care, sports coaching, or similar roles
  • Are passionate about helping young people develop both emotionally and academically
Prior experience in schools is welcome but not essential – transferable skills are highly valued.What You’ll Need:To work in this role, you’ll need (or be willing to obtain):
  • EWC registration (School Learning Support Worker category)
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service
  • Two references from your most recent roles
