AXIS Construction team is seeking a dynamic individual to join our strategic team of underwriters operating in one of the most exciting parts of the specialty insurance industry. We currently invite applications for the role of Senior EAR Underwriter.The Underwriter, will act within established guidelines to market, analyse, review, evaluate and monitor new and renewal accounts for EAR business. The individual will be responsible for exercising independent judgement in the processing of accounts and management of underwriting activities. EAR is a key component of Axis market leading construction offering.The ideal candidate will be a credible underwriter with a proven track record of success in the EAR space.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Underwrite Insurance Risks: Align with the Axis Business Plan and exercise personal authority to meet business objectives.Stakeholder Relationships: Foster strong relationships with customers, brokers, and colleagues to enhance influence and support business goals.Strategic Relationships: Cultivate strategic relationships in line with the Business Plan to achieve set objectives.Compliance: Ensure that the business is written in accordance with the Company's policies, procedures and controls (including audit requirements) at all times.Team Development: Actively contribute to the shaping and development of strategies, knowledge, and best practices within the team.
Brand Promotion: Positively represent the department, division, and company brand to effectively leverage brand equity.Regulatory Adherence: Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements to meet obligations.Underwriting Standards: Maintain underwriting standards, instructions, and best practices to minimize risk and enhance efficiency.Market Awareness: Stay informed about market dynamics and demonstrate awareness of the market cycle for effective operations.Leadership and Development: Motivate and develop the team by demonstrating strong leadership behaviours and management best practices to support the achievement of business goals.RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENTBroad relationships across the market with brokers / Contractors and ClientAble to be the lead point of contact for EAR within AxisWork with all internal stakeholders to ensure business is efficiently managedSTRATEGIC IMPACTAble to run with projects such as product development, rating model improvements or similar, managing the internal and external interfaces and delivering the project on time with a successful outcome.Able to undertake analysis on the existing portfolio and identify areas where changes could impact and improve financial performance or operational performance.AUTHORITYTrusted to operate within the underwriting guidelines with full underwriting authority.Able to undertake all the analysis required and prepare and submit all the necessary documentation to support underwriting decisions.Able to adhere to the underwriting guidelines and actuarial process and obtain all sign offs requiredREQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
BackgroundProven track record in the Engineering Insurance SpaceProven ability to underwrite large and complex EAR projectsHigh degree of technical insurance expertiseEngineering Degree preferredKnowledge of FCA, PRA and / or Lloyd’sStrong written and oral communication skillsDecisions based on data and analytics, using experience and judgement to get to the resultComputer skills – good working knowledge of MS Office, advanced Excel skillsStrong analytical skills with attention to detail.
