- Commission contributions for which the assistant editor is responsible (in particular, the bulletin section of the magazine) and ensuring that contributors deliver copy to deadline.
- Edit the bulletin section, commissioned features and other articles for publication in the magazine in accordance with PLC writing style.
- Read updates and build understanding of law and practice related to relevant practice areas to inform the content of the magazine and build understanding of customer needs and assesses the relevance, quality and suitability of contributions.
- Manage relationships with contributors of copy for which the assistant editor is responsible.
- Write occasional articles for the magazine.
- Be responsible during the monthly press week for signing off for publication articles and other elements of the magazine assigned to the assistant editor that month, including proofreading.
- Check the conversion of the magazine from hard copy magazine to online format.
- Qualified lawyer with 2 years+ PQE at a law firm or in-house.
- Excellent writing and editing skills.
- Impressive command of grammar, punctuation and plain English.
- Ability to review and assimilate information from a number of different sources and to write about complex legal issues clearly and simply.
- Strong research skills and understanding of business law and the legal market.
- Enthusiastic, highly self-motivated and well organised, strong interpersonal skills that would suit a small team, an ability to work well under pressure, including the ability to keep to non-negotiable press deadlines.
