- Own all Fleet Engineering activities and vehicle maintenance documentation, ensuring safety, compliance, reliability, availability, and customer outcomes.
- Set, monitor, and review KPIs for technical and safety performance, ensuring that all safety-related events are investigated and corrective actions implemented.
- Analyse statistical, technical and operational data to identify technical and performance issues, and develop solutions or mitigations to improve reliability, safety, train presentation, and asset performance.
- Manage all engineering modifications, changes, and NIRs, ensuring full compliance with regulations, correct documentation, and approval processes.
- Support depot and third-party maintainers with technical advice, coaching, and guidance, holding external teams to account for delivery to agreed standards.
- Prepare investment cases to support performance and lifecycle cost improvements, working with ROSCOs to ensure best value from fleet leases and maintenance strategies.
- Develop and deliver Performance Improvement Plans, holding action owners accountable and reporting on progress and impact.
- Engage with Network Rail and other stakeholders via Joint Performance Boards, leading all fleet-relevant aspects of performance strategy, funding opportunities, and collaborative projects.
- Validate and maintain the integrity of fleet performance data (MP701D/MTIN) and ensure accurate recording of defects and incidents.
- Lead or participate in joint investigations into performance issues, including people/machine interface challenges, and develop technical solutions with stakeholders.
- Chair operations forums to ensure effective communication between fleet teams, drivers, control, and onboard teams.
- Promote and deliver innovation, adopting industry best practice and integrating improvements into digital solutions where possible.
- Deputise for the Fleet Engineering Manager, Fleet Performance Manager, and other colleagues as required.
- Chartered Engineer (or working towards) with a degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- At least 5 years in a technical, engineering, or operational railway environment, ideally in a matrix management structure.
- Strong knowledge of rail vehicles, rolling stock systems, and industry standards.
- Experience in maintenance optimisation, engineering modifications, and performance improvement.
- Skilled in data analysis, problem-solving, and project delivery.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and familiar with rail applications such as R2, Compass, and Gemini.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and teamwork skills.
- Experience introducing new fleets of trains (desirable).
