Test and Development Engineer - Inverters
- Gaydon, Warwickshire
- Permanent
- Full-time
- Lead and execute inverter development and validation activities, with a strong emphasis on dyno test environments.
- Develop and manage end-to-end inverter test programmes, covering System, Mechanical, Hardware, Software, and Control domains.
- Define and review test cases, create structured test plans, manage test facilities, resolve test issues, and generate technical reports.
- Conduct motor control testing and refinement including:
- Field-Oriented Control (FOC)
- Current Control loops
- PWM strategies
- Interface with cross-disciplinary teams to integrate inverter systems into full EV platforms, including vehicle and bench-level validation.
- Support fault diagnostics, FMEA analysis, and root cause investigations for inverter components and controls.
- Collaborate on test automation and simulation environments using tools like MATLAB/Simulink, LabVIEW, and CANoe.
- Validate products to automotive standards including ISO 26262, ISO 16750, UN/ECE R10, and SAE J1772.
- Engage with EME (Electric Machine Engineering) teams for motor/inverter co-validation — EME experience is valued but not mandatory.
- Experience in inverter development and validation, ideally with hands-on exposure to dyno testing
- Deep understanding of motor control algorithms, especially FOC and current control strategies
- Proficient in lab equipment (oscilloscopes, HV setups, dynos) and testing tools (Python, LabVIEW, CANoe)
- Working knowledge of vehicle communication protocols (CAN, LIN, FlexRay)
- Familiarity with safety-critical validation per ISO 26262 and ASPICE
- Experience with electric drive systems (BEV, HEV, PHEV)
- Exposure to EME activities and motor/inverter co-design challenges
- Awareness of thermal management and battery integration implications for inverter performance
