- Responding efficiently and effectively to media enquiries to support the delivery of a first-class press office service
- Providing out of hours press office cover on a rotational basis
- Building and maintaining positive relationships with target media
- Supporting the business at times of intense scrutiny including major incidents or crises.
- Identifying, producing, editing and issuing timely news releases both to media and on the corporate website, defining key messaging, producing web copy, scripts, Q & A and response statements and ensuring that all content is on brand, accurate, truthful and not open to misinterpretation
- Posting Regulatory News Service announcements to the London Stock Exchange
- Identifying opportunities for, supporting the delivery of and attendance at media briefings, media interviews, journalist site visits and industry events
- Provide guidance to Work Winning on effective media engagement to support key strategic bids.
- Define and deliver media outputs within the supporting communications plans.
- Implementing, managing and measuring PR plans and campaigns against business units, projects and key Group themes
- Reporting on effectiveness and approaches to media relations to a wide range of internal stakeholders
- Ensuring all appropriate approvals are in place for all media relations activity
- Management of media monitoring provision and compliance
- Managing and updating media & PR forward planners and communications trackers
- Updating media distribution lists
- Representing Balfour Beatty at industry functions
- Complying with company policies and guidelines
- Working effectively with suppliers and client organisations
- Supporting colleagues in the wider communications team and across the Group including up to Executive leadership level
- Proven press office experience, ideally with relevant sector experience
- The ability to work in a high-pressured environment, multitask and prioritise several tasks and projects
- Strong planning and research skills
- Good networking and interpersonal skills
- Excellent copy writing skills to produce engaging, accurate content for diverse audiences
- Good media contacts and the confidence to build new ones
- Creativity in approach and understanding of impactful PR opportunities
- CIPR qualification - desirable
