But we are more than just tracks and trains, we are a catalyst for jobs and opportunities, a connection to leisure and time with family and friends, and a foundation for communities and neighbourhoods.We are a key part of the national network, with Birmingham New Street - the busiest station outside of London and the hub of the railway - connecting England, Scotland and Wales, with hundreds of services arriving and leaving every day.About the role (External)What does a Technician Distribution and Plant do?A critical part of the work we do is the daily upkeep of the rail network. As a Technician for Distribution and Plant, you'll work part of a team and be responsible to inspect, fault find, maintain and the renew our the assets to keep power flowing through the electrified rails safely and efficiently. Day to day you'll work on the nuts, bolts and cables of the electrification system making sure that the railway has the power to run the trains, signals, and stations. In addition to this, you will also provide support to the Team Leader to organise and motivate the team so that work is undertaken safely, efficiently and to the relevant standards.Our Technicians work outside in all conditions, at all times of the year, day, or night and weekends. You'll be involved in demanding manual work, often with the need to transport kit, across tricky terrain. Being safety focused, respectful of rules and a team player will be critical as you'll often be working next to moving trains travelling at high speed.This is a brilliant career opportunity within the Railway if you have a passion for electrical maintenance.
