Reporting directly to the Site Planning Manager, as the Master Scheduler you will be responsible for all operational scheduling and controls within Hitachi Rail Rolling Stock UK.Whilst Operational planning and control will be your primary focus, as the Master Scheduler you will also contribute as needed to broader planning activities. Operational planning within RSUK include, car body weld & paint, assembly, routine & type testing along with commissioning.PLEASE NOTE THIS ROLE IS AN 18 MONTH FIXED TERM CONTRACTSpecifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:
  • Create and maintain the Master Production Schedule (MPS) with information supplied via the High Level & Project Plans, and aligned with S&OP.
  • Create, monitor & control MPS & SAP Build Plan with consideration of safety, quality, delivery & cost, and release, as well as validate releases by Scheduler, to drive critical warehouse picking activities.
  • Create and issue scheduling artefacts, from the MPS to day plans, trackers and other items as needed to support the team to understand, follow and deliver against the plan.
  • Ensure the MPS is controlled effectively, confirmed and communicated out to the stakeholders in a timely manner - maintaining a continuous cycle of planning, monitoring of activities, & control.
  • Create and maintain in a timely fashion Production & Rework Orders In SAP.
  • Create and maintain the SAP Train Projects for each individual Project at NAY (creation of Network / Templates / Trains etc.) Update as required with date changes.
  • Create & communicate dashboards to effectively monitor metrics & the plan, and to frequently update Planning Manager, Project Managers & other key stakeholders as necessary.
  • Creation of Training documents for SAP Planning functions & relevant SAP transactions.
  • Monitoring & closure of Production, Rework & other orders in a timely fashion.
  • Monitoring potential Master Data errors, and working with other teams to correct - which may affect the SAP Build Plan, Production Orders or other operational controls.
  • Monitoring daily progress to check, verify and confirm the key information that backs up the plan e.g. production delays or pull-forwards, material delays, facility issues etc.
  • Co-ordinate and attend daily meetings with key stakeholders with the aim of communicating the plan including any changes, and gaining site wide buy-in. Stakeholders managed accordingly to enable effective execution of the MPS & plans.
  • Document processes & SAP procedures to train other Planning team members to ensure available cover at all times.
  • Understand the processes & constraints of the RSUK in detail and use this information to form effective master production schedules for all areas of the facility. Document & maintain up to date records of maximum space / equipment / workcentre capabilities & capacity in all areas of the facility.
  • Work closely with multiple operations, warehouse and production managers/section leaders to get up to the minute, accurate information that allows the SAP Build Plan to be constantly updated in real time, and always aligned with the approved MPS.
  • Work with all other Planning team members to ensure changes to plans do not interfere with upstream or downstream processes/facilities – including consideration of logistics / material storage / welding / paint / traverser capacity and internal storage, through to test & validation / product introduction / depot capacity. Highlight impact of changes to relevant stakeholders and resolve issues.
  • Validate required changes to the MPS with other Planning team members, and gain approval from Planning Manager prior to release.
  • Implement Continuous Improvement initiatives and fully contribute to supporting a culture of Continuous Improvement, in line with requirements from the Planning Manager & the business.
  • Support end to end Rolling Stock UK activities as required.
  • Provide cover for other Master Scheduler/Operations Controller or Scheduler(s) in their absence.
  • Resolve issues & escalate roadblocks to Planning Manager, Project Managers & other relevant stakeholders accordingly.
  • Maintain strong relationships with stakeholders & promote ‘One Hitachi’ philosophy, display and actively encourage Hitachi values of Harmony, Sincerity and Pioneering Spirit.
  • Maintain professionalism at all times, contributing to a High Performance Culture & being an ambassador to display positive, collaborative behaviours across the facility & RSUK.
  • Ensure the MPS is adhered to and control change management is applied, reviewing all changes with relevant stakeholders and gaining relevant approvals prior to releasing any new/revised MPS.

  • Must have previous experience working within a Master Controller role.
  • Understanding of operational impacts of Master Production Schedules.
  • Strong SAP & MRP/Equivalent programme knowledge.
  • Experience of working with cross functional teams.
  • Experience co-ordinating & initiating action, taking initiative and adapting/responding to change.
  • Customer focused.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal.
  • Strong people skills, and experience working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders.
  • Commitment to working as part of an extended team is vital.
  • Experience in creating, maintaining and managing manufacturing schedules or similar.
  • Negotiation and analytical skills.
  • Well organised & high attention to detail.
  • Must be able to work on own initiative and escalate as and when appropriate.
  • Motivated and flexible.
Desirable Requirements
  • Prior experience working in an engineering or manufacturing environment with strong knowledge of planning and production controls.
Qualifications (desirable)
  • A Level or equivalent education, with excellent numeric and verbal reasoning competencies.
  • Degree education is advantageous but not essential.
