Watford Mencap is a local charity providing high-quality social care and support to over 650 people with learning disabilities and their families across South-West Hertfordshire. They are an independent, self-funded organisation affiliated with Royal Mencap, with a strong, sustainable business model and a person-centred approach. With 170 staff and 30+ volunteers, contributing over 5,000 hours last year, we deliver a wide range of services including housing, community activities, work-based training, and social support.We are looking for a Finance Officer (21 hours per week) to join our small, friendly finance team.   • Data entry, reconciliation, and maintaining financial records.
  • Processing invoices, payments, expenses, and petty cash.
  • Creating sales invoices and liaising with funders, councils, and suppliers.
  • Assisting with financial reporting, project audits, payroll, and budget monitoring.
  • Supporting the Finance Manager, including deputising during periods of absence.
  • You'll work closely with managers, staff, and volunteers, providing accurate financial data and building strong working relationships across the charity.
You will be AAT qualified or equivalent experience with experience in finance administration, including maintaining finance and payroll databases. You will have good attention to detail and accuracy and be proficient in accounting software (ideally Xero), Excel, and IT systems. You have knowledge of contract income processes and you have good problem-solving skills with strong numeracy skills. You are confident working independently and as part of a team with strong communication skills.You are flexible and motivated to help the charity achieve its aims: supporting many local individuals and families to make the most of life, learning and enjoying new skills and independence.
