Spencer Quantum, a member of RSK Group, have a unique opportunity for an Engineering Geologist/ Geotechnical Engineer with relevant industry experience to join our growing South Wales Team based out of our Swansea premises on a full time, permanent basis.The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with ground investigation work across Wales, South West and Nationally as and when required, as directed by the Project Manager or other project staff. You will also be expected to have experience and ability to undertake geotechnical interpretative ground investigation reports.Person Specification:
  • BSc degree level qualified in geology/earth sciences or a related environmental subject essential.
  • Previous UK ground investigation site experience is essential, and knowledge of the various techniques employed
  • Be able to log samples to BS 5930+A2 technical standards
  • A good knowledge of the principal soil and rock strata encountered in the UK.
  • Knowledgeable in geotechnical studies including good understanding of soil mechanics basics.
  • Familiar with and be able to interpret geological maps and published geological data.
  • Understanding of water, ground and soil gas monitoring techniques.
  • Full UK driving licence essential.
  • Valid CSCS Card (if not held, the Company will facilitate)
  • Working towards chartership with the Geological Society or Institution of Civil Engineers.
  • Excellent report writing skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy
  • Ability to travel to different sites.
Responsibilities:
  • Undertaking Phase 1 desk studies.
  • Liaising with clients, engineering supervisors and subcontractors.
  • Setting up and organising ground investigation works.
  • Supervising intrusive investigation activities such as drilling, trial. pitting and in-situ testing.
  • Soil and rock logging and laboratory scheduling.
  • Processing & Interpretation of field and laboratory results.
  • Report writing, both factual and interpretative reports.
