Planning Manager - Pre ConstructionLocation: WatfordSalary / Benefits Circa £71,000 -£79,000 plus car / allowance and package this is negotiable dependant on expertiseSummaryA major infrastructure and civil engineering contractor is looking to hire as a Planning Manager.As a Planning Manager you will be working in the Pre-Construction Planning team based in Watford and reporting to the Head of Planning, The Planning Manager will assimilate the tender documents and produce a plan to deliver the project and communicate the plan to the Bid team. They will develop and produce a tender programme to comply with the Contract and Works Information, and to reflect the most efficient and effective sequence to deliver a project, or section of works.The Planning Manager will be responsible for liaising with the Estimating team and assisting with the preparation of Preliminary Items; method related items; reconciliation of labour, plant and equipment. They will also assist our bid team with the presentation of the plan and programme at internal governance meetingsThis role could potentially suit a Section Manager or Assistant Project Manager wanting a new challenge.Duties for this Planning Manager Role
  • Manage the planning on the tender to produce the plan and programme for submission.
  • Communicate the plan to everyone involved including external stakeholders.
  • Ensure the plan and programme incorporate allowance for safe working methods and timely construction.
  • Identify risk to the programme, make time risk allowance in the programme and contribute to the tender risk and opportunity schedule/register.
  • Communicate and gain approval from the bid/project team, the methods proposed and the sequence of the plan utilizing visual aids and graphics developed from concept and detailed drawings.
  • Liaise and negotiate with suppliers communicating proposed methods and sequence.
  • Assist the bid team to evaluate supply chain quotations/methodologies that relate to programme.
  • Manage the resource and cost loading of the programmes in liaison with the Estimating team to produce a commercial forecast if required.
  • Training up junior engineers to become Planners
Planning Manager Person Specification
  • Extensive experience in planning on civil engineering or building projects, either office or site based
  • Need to have first-hand site experience from a Construction background
  • Experience in a range of sector Energy, Rail, Motorways, Wind Farms, Flood schemes etc
  • Degree qualified within an engineering discipline or equivalent
  • Able to digest high level of information and provide expanded detailed analysis using their work experience.
  • Advanced use of specialist software e.g. Primavera P6, CAD, PowerPoint , 4Projects etc.
Professional Membership: ICE or APM Membership is desirable
  • Past history of how you have delivered something to stakeholders. (plesse reference this in your CV/Coversheet)
