- Use a range of assessment skills and knowledge of psychometric tools appropriate for the client group.
- With the overall supervision of a clinically qualified psychologist, plan and prioritise their own work load.
- Use computerised systems for record keeping and reference.
- Communicate complex information sensitively.
- Implement therapeutic programmes, group sessions or other aspects of care programmes on a clinically supervised basis
- To engage in periods of concentrated effort, both mental and physical (report writing, assessment sessions).
- Be required to work with individuals who have experienced or may experience emotional distress. This may involve being exposed to aggression in face-to-face work with patients: a high degree of professionalism must be maintained at all times.
- Receive regular clinical supervision from a senior clinical psychologist in accordance with good practice guidelines and the overall framework of the services policies and procedures.
- Contribute directly and indirectly to a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all clients of the service, across all settings and agencies serving the client group.
- Use a variety of methods to communicate complex information in an understandable manner. This includes using trust-approved interpreters, written and diagrammatic information, audiotapes and role-plays.

- Undergraduate level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as used by the profession
- Able to communicate effectively (both written and oral) complex, technical and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families carers and a wide range of lay and professional persons within and outside the NHS.
- Highly motivated with respect to developing clinical and academic skills
- Ability to use statistical packages, databases and spreadsheets.
