We're looking for a detail-oriented and proactive engineer with a strong background in lifts and escalators to join our Asset Management team. You'll have experience working within a safety-critical environment, ideally with knowledge of railway infrastructure or other highly regulated sectors. A solid understanding of relevant legislation and standards-such as LOLER, PUWER, and BS EN 81-is essential, along with the ability to assess asset condition, support maintenance planning, and contribute to long-term asset strategies. You should be confident working collaboratively with internal teams and external contractors to help ensure the reliability and safety of our vertical transport assets across the rail network.About the role (External)About the team..
Engineering Services is a function within Route Services. We sit as a central team to provide national skills and activities which enable regions and industry partners to deliver the railway for our customers.As a large central functional team which focus on engineering delivery, we have many roles, ranging from pure engineering to project management. We design and influence every part of the railway, including structures, track, traction power, level crossings, signalling and accessibility schemes which are essential to keep our stations moving.What does the average day look like?
No two days are quite the same as a Lifts & Escalators Asset Engineer at Network Rail. You'll be at the heart of keeping our vertical transport systems safe, reliable, and fit for purpose-overseeing planned maintenance, reviewing asset condition data, and helping shape future improvements. Your role blends technical analysis with hands-on assurance activities, using audits and intelligent data to identify trends and prevent failures before they happen. You'll work closely with suppliers, contractors, and colleagues across teams, contributing to contract performance reviews, approving technical quotes, and feeding into operational meetings. Whether it's leading on asset strategies, responding to incidents, or providing expert insight on planned works, you'll play a vital role in delivering a safer, more efficient railway for everyone. Throughout, you'll be supported to maintain your professional development and grow your expertise in a collaborative and safety-focused environment.Essential Criteria· NVQ Level 3 as a minimum or equivalent in Lifts or Escalator· Experience of working in the field of Lifts and Escalators engineering· An understanding of safety management systems and risk assessment techniques· Technical engineering experience· Experience and understanding of the Lifts & Escalators Regulations and standards.Please see attached job description for full details.Desirable Criteria· Working towards membership of a relevant professional institution· Membership of IOSH or NEBOSH· Knowledge of relevant Network Rail policies and standards· Knowledge of the railway industry and an understanding of railway infrastructureHow to apply (External)Additional Information…Closing date: 16th September.
